If I get in line before the seafood Department at the grocery store is, I so confused about the nature of the salmon to buy. I know I need to Alaska Wild salmon, but apart from that, that I am lost.
Salmon is such a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids and want we eat there often, but we must also ensure that we choose a sustainable fish.
Farmed atlantiklachs: That most all salmon, found in the Atlantic are managed, and the wild population has been overfished. Although the farms remain sought-after, the total population of Atlantic salmon is disappearing. Also, if the farmed salmon escape their captivity, they bother Habitat for endangered wild salmon. The fear part is that these farmed salmon contain more toxins and pesticides than wild salmon. However, votes will be many experts, that these risks can be overlooked by the high number of Omega-3, you are taking.
Wild of salmon: Never buy this kind of salmon, as it is now a Member!
Organic salmon: Pay no on this. Organic means not always "the best". Just make sure that it wild or farmed.
Alaskan Lachs: This is often the best choice as wild Alaskan of salmon are environmentally sound fishing techniques and the population to grow. Search silver, or will salmon varieties for wild Alaskan Coho, CHUM, King, Sockeye, pink, red.
Pacific salmon: This is probably the next best choice, if you not Alaskan.
I would not recommend to buy all Atlantic salmon, especially because the total Atlantic wild population farmed salmon are great at risk. The best case scenario would be for all of the fisheries, to change their practices. Some countries working already on, so we'll see what happens. But now I eat Steelhead how salmon in taste and nutrition, but one is much more sustainable choice.
Resource:Search Monterey Bay Aquarium to find sustainable fish site.
